The Duas of The Prophets and The Pious

This is part 7 of my Dua Series. You can read Part 1 - Why I Love Dua As A Muslim, Part 2 - How To Get Your Duas Accepted, Part 3 - How I Start And End My Day With Dua, Part 4 -The Duas I Say For Hardship, Part 5 - The Duas I Say For Protection, and Part 6 - The Duas I Say For Illness.

Allah SWT Says In The Quran:

“Call upon Me, I will respond to you.”

Dua is such an important part of being a believer, that our beloved Prophet PBUH equaled it to worship. That’s why, Allah SWT has given us examples of duas made by the Prophets and pious people PBUT in The Holy Quran.

The Prophets PBUT were sent by Allah SWT as role models and the best examples for mankind. We emulate them by making dua during hardship and need, in order to achieve peace and success in our lives as well.

I love to incorporate these extra duas when I need additional assistance or I am going through an extraneous circumstance. On days I can manage, I say these supplications alongside my other daily duas i.e. duas for protection, hardship, and my morning and evening duas.

The Dua of Prophet Adam A.S

This is the first dua ever said by mankind. It was the dua of Prophet Adam A.S when he had committed his first mistake and turned to Allah SWT in repentance. This is a helpful dua to say for istighfar (seeking forgiveness).

Rabbana thalamna anfusana wain lam taghfir lana watarhamna lanakoonanna mina alkhasireena

“Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers.” - (Quran 7:23)

The Dua Of Prophet Yunus A.S

This is the dua that was said by Prophet Yunus A.S when he was stuck inside the belly of a whale. He felt hopeless and turned to Allah SWT in repentance, begging for His Mercy. Another wonderful dua to say for istighfar and at times of hardship.

La ilaha illa anta subhanaka innee kuntu mina alththalimeena

“No one has the right to be worshiped but You (O Allah), Glorified (and Exalted) are You. Truly, I have been of the wrong-doers.” - (Qur'an 21:87)

The Dua of Prophet Ayub A.S

Prophet Ayub A.S was ill for many years with a terrible disease. He was known for his patience in enduring one calamity after another and remaining steadfast in his belief in Allah SWT. After a long time of suffering, he turned to his Lord asking for His Mercy with this dua.

Annee massaniya alddurru waanta arhamu alrrahimeena

“Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy.” - (Quran 21:83)

The Duas of Prophet Ibrahim A.S

“My Lord! Bestow judgment on me, and join me with the righteous; And grant me an honorable mention in later generations; And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart.” - (Quran 26:83)

The Dua Of The New Believers

During Prophet Musa A.S time, the evil king Pharaoh was threatening to torture for the new Muslims for their belief in Allah SWT and the believers recited this dua.

This dua was recited by Talut (Saul) and his army for victory over the giant Jalut (Goliath) and his forces.

The Dua Of Conclusion

It is recommended to conclude our duas with the dua of conclusion.

“Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honor and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! And peace be on the Messengers! And all the praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinn, and all that exists).” - (Quran 37:180)

Dua has changed my life as a Muslim. I urge you to try to incorporate it into your routine and see how life-changing it can be! Our beloved Prophet PBUH mentions dua as worship and regularly instills it into his days.

This concludes my dua series, alhumdulillah. As a bonus, I have added, The Duas I Say When My Kids Are Sick where I share how I deal with sick kids using dua.
