The Duas I Say Daily for Protection

This is part 5 of my Dua Series. You can read Part 1 - Why I Love Dua As A Muslim, Part 2 - How To Get Your Duas Accepted, Part 3 - How I Start And End My Day With Dua, and Part 4 -The Duas I Say For Hardship.

Despite our moments of feeling fearful and forlorn from life, and powerless and deterred by the will of others, we have a defense. Allah SWT gives us the most effective means to overcome any situation through the power of dua.

No one can can stop our duas from being answered! Our Lord hears our plea always and He loves to be asked. We just need to place our trust in Him fully, be patient for the outcome, and do the best we can till our situation is resolved.

Our Merciful Lord protects us each and every day even if we do not ask Him to, and I always think how successful my day is when my family and I are safe and healthy alhumdulillah.

However, the blessing of protection should not be taken for granted and we are advised to say duas for specifically for our protection daily. It is what the Prophet PBUH used to practice or advised others to say to protect them from harm.

The Duas I Say For Protection Of My Children

Each morning and evening I'll recite the tawaud, the quls, and ayat al-kursi with my children. This is the absolute minimum I recommend that you recite daily as you are asking the Mighty and Majestic Lord to protect our children from the shayateen (devils) and all envy and evil.

1. The Tawaud

Auzubillah Minashaitan Nirajeem

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed devil.

2. Surah Al-Ikhlas (The Purity)

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem. Qul Huwa-llahu ‘Ahad Allah's-Samad Lam Yalid Wa Lam YuladWalam Yakul-La-Hu-Kufuwan ‘Ahad.

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say: He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is nothing comparable to Him.

3. Surah Al-Falaq (The Dawn)

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem. Qul ‘A’udhu Bi-Rabbil-Falaq Min Sharri Ma Khalaq Wa Min Sharri Ghasiqin ‘Idha Waqab Wa Min Sharri-Naffathati Fil-‘Uqadi Wa Min Sharri Hasidin ‘Idha Hasad.

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say: I take refuge with the Lord of Daybreak. From the evil of what He created. And from the evil of the darkness as it gathers. And from the evil of those who practice sorcery. And from the evil of the envious when he envies.”

4. Surah An-Nas (Mankind)

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem. Qul ‘A’udhu Bi-Rabbin-Nas Malik in-Nas Ilahin-Nas Min-Sharril-Waswasil-Khan-Nas Al-Ladhi Yuwas-wisu Fee Sudurin-Nas Mina Al-Jinnati Wan-Nas.

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind. The King of mankind. The God of mankind. From the evil of the sneaky whisperer. Who whispers into the hearts of people. From among jinn and among people.

5. The Ayat al Kursi

Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa, Al-Haiyul-Qaiyum La ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm, lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-'ard Man dhal-ladhi yashfa'u 'indahu illa bi-idhnihi Ya'lamu ma baina aidihim wa ma khalfahum, wa la yuhituna bi shai'im-min 'ilmihi illa bima sha'a Wasi'a kursiyuhus-samawati wal ard, wa la ya'uduhu hifdhuhuma Wa Huwal 'Aliyul-Adheem

Allah! There is no deity but Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. Unto Him belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who could intercede in His presence without His permission? He knows that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His throne includes the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous.

6. Dua #1

I will also recite these next 3 duas daily for my children, especially when they go outside and because of social media. The duas below are powerful duas to say for protection from evil and envy and I also say these supplications everyday for myself.

a`udhu bi kalimatillahi al-tammati min kulli shaytaanin wa hammatin wa min kulli `aynin lammah”

I seek protection in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every beast and from every envious blameworthy eye.

7. Dua #2

'A'udhu bikalimat-illahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaqa

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of that which He has created.

8. Dua #3

Rabbi a’oothu bika min hamazaatish-shayaateeni. Wa-a’oothu bika rabbi an yahduroon. My Lord!

O Lord, I seek refuge with You from the whisperings of the devils. And I seek refuge with You my Lord, lest they may come near me. - Surah Al Mu’minoon

The evil eye is a reality as the Prophet PBUH informed us about it in the Hadith. Hasad comes to us not only as intentional envy, but unintentional envy too. This means that when someone admires you or your family and they do not praise Allah SWT thereafter, you can still be affected by hasad.

More Duas For Protection

I will continue to say these extra duas on most days as they encompass other factors of our lives that we need protection for. It really takes less than 5 minutes and once it becomes a habit, you’ll feel bereft without saying them.

Dua #1

We are asking Allah SWT in this supplication to fix our problems and not to leave us alone with our troubles even for a short time.

O Ever Living, O Self-Subsisting and Supporter of all, by Your mercy I seek assistance, rectify for me all of my affairs and do not leave me to myself, even for the blink of an eye. [al Hakim]

Dua #2

We are placing our full trust in Allah SWT when we say this supplication. We are claiming that nothing can harm us when we have Him by our side.

Bismillaahil-lathee laa yadhurru ma'as-mihi shay'un fil-'ardhi wa laa fis-samaa'i wa Huwas-Samee 'ul- 'Aleem.

In the Name of Allah, Who with His Name nothing can cause harm in the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Dua #3

This is one of my absolute favorite duas for protection it is the dua that Rasulullah SAW taught Abu Darda R.A. for absolute security of the house (including fire, theft, etc): I try to read this daily after Fajr and after Isha for our safety and home.

I heard an amazing real-life story in the community whereby a family who were living in a bad neighborhood, had an intruder in their home one night. The children made this supplication to Allah SWT and the intruder left their home without harming them, subhanallah. After hearing this story, I instilled this dua daily in my routine.

Allahoumma anta rabbi laa ilaaha illaa anta, ‘alaika tawakkaltou wa anta rabboul’arshil kareem, maa shaa Allahou kaan wa maa lam yasha’ lam yakoun, wa laa Hawla wa laa qouwwata illaa billaahil ‘aliyyil ‘azweem, a’alamou annal laaha ‘alaa koulli shai in qadeer, wa annal laaha qad aHaatwa bi koulli shai in ‘ilman. Allahoumma inni a’ouzou bika min sharri nafsi wa min sharri koulli daab batin anta aakhizoun binaaswiyatihaa, inna rabbi ‘alaa swiraatim moustaqeem. (Baihaqui)

Oh Allah, You are my Lord. There is nothing worthy of worship except You. I place all of my trust and reliance in You and You are the Lord of the Noble Throne. Whatever Allah wishes takes place, and whatever He does not desire, does not occur, and there is no power and no strength except in Allah, The Exalted, The Mighty. I know that Allah is Powerful over all things and that Allah has knowledge of all things. Oh Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my myself and from the evil of every crawling creature. You are master over them. Verily, You are Lord of the Straight Path.

Dua #4

The Prophet PBUH would seek refuge in Allah SWT from 4 disastrous things in this supplication namely:

  1. Knowledge that has no use and can lead to punishment.

  2. A heart that is not submissive to Allah.

  3. A soul that is not content which causes greed, jealousy, and ungratefulness.

  4. Supplication that is not accepted especially due to the 3 things above.

I love this dua because it reminds me to stay humble and protect me from my nafs.

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge which does not benefit, from a heart that does not entertain the fear (of Allah), from a soul that is not satisfied, and the supplication that is not answered.

Dua #5

This dua encompasses so many aspects of our lives that we need assistance with. It’s an excellent supplication to make daily to protect us from harm that can come from all sides. One of my faves as well alhumdulillah.

Allaahumma 'innee 'as'alukal-'afwa wal'aafiyata fid-dunyaa wal'aakhirati, Allaahumma 'innee 'as'alukal-'afwa wal'aafiyata fee deenee wa dunyaaya wa 'ahlee, wa maalee , Allaahum-mastur 'awraatee, wa 'aamin raw'aatee, Allaahum-mahfadhnee min bayni yadayya, wa min khalfee, wa 'an yameenee, wa 'an shimaalee, wa min fawqee, wa 'a'oothu bi'adhamatika 'an 'ughtaala min tahtee

O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness and Your protection in this world and the next. O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness and Your protection in my religion, in my worldly affairs, in my family and in my wealth. O Allah, conceal my secrets and preserve me from anguish. O Allah, guard me from what is in front of me and behind me, from my left, and from my right, and from above me. I seek refuge in Your Greatness from being struck down from beneath me. - Abu Dawud

Dua #6

Another powerful supplication where we say that we are accepting Allah’s Qadr for our affairs and asking Him to relieve our sadness and distress.

 Allahumma innee ‛abduk, wabnu-‛ab-dik, wabnu-a-ma-tik, naa-siya-tee biyadik, maadin fiy-ya hukmuk, ‛ad-lun fiy-ya qadaa’ook, as’aluka bi kul-lis-min huwa laka sam-may-ta bi-hi nafsak, aw an-zal-ta-hu fee ki-taa-bik, aw ‛al-lam-ta-hu a-ha-dam-min khal-qik, a-wis-ta’ sar-ta bi-hi fee ‛il-mil-ghay-bi ‛indak, an taj-‛a-lal-qur-aaa-na ra-bee-‛a qal-bee, wa noo-ra sad-ree, wa ja-laa-’a huz-nee, wa za-haa-ba ham-mee.

O Allah, I am Your slave and the son of Your male slave and the son of your female slave. My forehead is in Your Hand. Your Judgment upon me is assured and Your Decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every Name that You have named Yourself with, revealed in Your Book, taught any one of  Your creation or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You, to make the Quran the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness and the reliever of my distress. - Ahmad

Dua #7

This dua is a great supplication to foil the devil’s plots.

A'oothu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaatil-latee laa yujaawizuhunna barrun wa laa faajirun min sharri maa khalaqa, wa bara'a wa thara'a, wa min sharri maa yanzilu minas-samaa'i, wa min sharri maa ya'ruju feehaa, wa min sharri maa thara'a fil-'ardhi, wa min sharri ma yakhruju minhaa, wa min sharri fitanil-layli wannahaari, wa min sharri kulli taariqin 'illaa taariqan yatruqu bikhayrin yaa Rahmaan.

I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah which neither the upright nor the corrupt may overcome - from the evil of what He created, of what He made, and of what He scattered, from the evil of what descends from the heavens, and of what rises up to them, from the evil of what He scattered in the earth and of what emerges from it, from the evil trials of night and day, and from the evil of every night visitor, except the night visitor who comes with good. O Merciful One.

Dua #8

Praise is what we love as humans, but in Islam we are taught that too much praise can be harmful to us. Reason being, because praise can actually ruin the good intention you started with and turn it into a bad intention.

Your efforts can become corrupted as you begin to do things to seek words of praise instead of for the pleasure of Allah SWT. The Prophet's PBUH best friend, Abu Bakr R.A would say this supplication after being praised:

O Allah, make me better than what they think of me, and forgive me for what they do not know about me, and do not take me to account for what they say about me.

Dua #9

This is a good supplication to make daily as it encompasses everything we want good in our worldly and earthly life. Ibn Al-Kathir states that the supplication mentioned and praised in the verse includes all good aspects of this life and seeks refuge from all types of evil.

The good of this life concerns every material request of well-being, spacious dwelling, pleasing mates, sufficient provision, beneficial knowledge, good profession or deeds, comfortable means of transportation and good praise.

As for the good of the Hereafter, the best of this includes acquiring Paradise, which also means acquiring safety from the greatest horror at the gathering place. It also refers to being questioned lightly and the other favors in the Hereafter.

wamin'hum man yaqūlu rabbanā ātinā fī l-dun'yā ḥasanatan wafī l-ākhirati ḥasanatan waqinā ʿadhāba l-nār

O our Lord, grant us good in this world, and good in the hereafter and save us from the punishment of the fire.

Dua #10

In this supplication, we are asking Allah SWT to keep our hearing and sight preserved and to prevent us from becoming disbelievers, facing poverty, and getting punished in the grave.

Allaahumma 'aafinee fee badanee, Allaahumma 'aafinee fee sam'ee, Allaahumma 'aafinee fee basaree, laa 'ilaaha 'illaa 'Anta. Allaahumma 'innee 'a'oothu bika minal-kufri, walfaqri, wa 'a'oothu bika min 'athaabil-qabri, laa 'ilaaha 'illaa 'Anta.

O Allah, make me healthy in my body. O Allah, preserve for me my hearing. O Allah, preserve for me my sight. There is none worthy of worship but You. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave. There is none worthy of worship but You. - Bukhari

Dua #11

This dua encompasses all aspects of our existence! When you say this dua, you are asking Allah SWT to set right your religion, your earthly life, your hereafter, your barakah, your death, and to protect you against evil. It is truly a powerful supplication that the Prophet PBUH would say.

Allahumma aṣliḥ lī dīn al-lathi huwa ‘iṣmatu amrī, wa aṣliḥ lī dunya-ya al-lati fīhā ma’āshī, wa aṣlih lī ākhirati al-lati fīhā ma’ādī, wa-ja’al al-ḥayāta ziyādatan lī fī kuli khayr, wa-ja’al al-mawta rāḥatan lī min kuli sharr

O Allah, set right for me my religion which is the safeguard of my affairs. And set right for me the affairs of my world wherein is my living. And set right for me my Hereafter to which is my return. And make the life for me (a source) of abundance for every good and make my death a source of comfort for me protecting me against every evil.

Dua #12

A beautiful dua to supplicate in asking Allah SWT to save us from bad days, nights, hours, companions, and even bad neighbors!

Allaahum-ma in-nee a‛oodhu bika min yawmis-soo’, wa min laylatis-soo’, wa min sa‛atis-soo’, wa min ṣaaḥibis-soo’, wa min jaaris-soo’ fee daaril-muqaamah

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from bad days, bad nights, bad hours, bad companions, and bad neighbors in my place of residence. - Tabaraani

These duas have changed my days from worry and anxiety, to relief and faith by placing my full trust in our Merciful Lord. I know that when I say these duas daily, I can be assured that no harm will come to my family and I, unless Allah Wills it. It has given me such peaceful days and I highly recommend it for moms!

In part 6 of my Dua Series, The Duas I Say For Illness I will share the duas that you can say to help you and your family get extra protection from Allah swt.
